Confused by this line but more of a casual tennis fan so I was hoping someone had some information. Makarova is seeded 17th and Bouchard is 7th yet Makarova is -119 in this. Not much experience to go off of in this tournament for Bouchard and Makarova has only reached the quarters once here. Anyone have any extra insight in to this?
Bouchard has not been good since Wimbledon final. She's won like 1 match in the last 3 tournaments played...going 1 for 4, losing early round matches against less talented opponents, has not been good. Makarova beat her in their only match in 2013, 6-2, 6-4 I think. Bouchard has always been good on hard court, and seems to always rise to the occasion in majors...yet she showed poorly at the Canadian, losing her first match following a first round bye as the #3 seed. How can she be clutch in majors, but not be clutch at her home country's open? And she's been struggling again this tournament. Who knows. Seems like Makarova is a safer bet. Keep in mind Bouchard is 20. There's definitely a maturity factor in all of this. Makarova is 26...?
